Newfoundland(NL) Day will be held at the Maine Inn, Poland Spring Resort on Saturday, June 17, 2023 starting at 3:30 pm. This will be a fun filled event featuring a Screeching In Ceremony, Mummering and much more.
This event will bring people together who are originally from Newfoundland and many of whom married US Sailors from the Argentina Naval Base in New Foundland. Also anyone else who wants to be in on this fun evening. Come and meet Newfoundlanders and find out more about that province. Lots of Information will be available. Everybody is welcome. Long term friendships in Canada and the US have formed through these events.
Become an Honorary Newfoundlander at the Screech In Ceremony by taking the Newfoundland pledge and kissing the fish.As one person stated “Kissing the Fish” Ceremony is the most hilarious thing I have seen in a long time”.
We are excited to have Troy Bennett and friends perform folk music of Newfoundland, Ireland and the Sea. Bennett is a musician, adventurer and storyteller. He has traveled to Newfoundland and Labrador, down the coast of Maine and across the green fields of Ireland, picking up songs and friends wherever his travels have taken him. Bennett is a well-known folk singer around his native Maine, having performed with The Squid Jiggers, Baileys Mistake, Rakish Paddy and the long running Half Moon Jug Band.
