SUMMARY:Members - Mid Summer ABCD Scramble
DESCRIPTION:Mid Summer ABCD Scramble \nSunday August 3\, 2025  \nThe Mid – Summer ABCD Scramble is open to all Poland Spring Members with active GHIN handicap. \nThe Mid – Summer ABCD will consist of an 18 hole four player scramble. \nFORMAT:  Each team member hits a tee shot on each hole. The team then collectively decides which of the four balls is in the best position to play next. After the team decides which ball is best\, mark the position with a tee\, each player retrieves their ball\, and plays a shot from the new designated position. This procedure is repeated for each shot until a ball is holed. A player’s lie may be improved by one club length (no closer to the hole) through the green with the exception of hazards. For example\, if you elect to play a ball from a sand trap\, the player whose ball you have chosen to play must play the ball as it lies and then the other team members will be allowed to place the ball (no closer to the hole). Once players have reached the green\, the ball may not be placed to improve a player’s lie (must be placed at spot where it lies).   All putts must be holed out. No gimmies.  Each member of the team must use his/her tee shot once. \nTEAMS – Teams will be determined after the close of registration on Friday August 1st.  Teams will be made by placing A’s from low to high\, B’s from high to low\, C’s from low to high and D’s from high to low. Additional prizes will be awarded for the longest drive (men and women) and closest to the pin (men and women). DESCRIPTION:Norm Nolette Chapter Raises Nearly $1 Million Since Golf Tournament’s Inception\n\n\n\n September 27\, 2023 | CU Collaboration and Chapter Activity\, Ending Hunger. Since 1995\, the Norm Nolette Chapter of Credit Unions has hosted an annual golf tournament to benefit the Campaign for Ending Hunger. This year’s event was held on August 24 at the Poland Spring Golf Course and raised an outstanding $60\,200\, exceeding their previous highest fundraising total by $3\,200!\nThe culmination of the Norm Nolette Chapter’s twenty-eighth tournament also signifies another significant milestone: this event has raised $964\,171.58 since its start—nearly $1 million! All proceeds throughout the years have been directed to the Campaign.“When the chapter began hosting this tournament back in 1995\, I don’t think any of us could have imagined how much it would grow and raise in support of the Campaign for Ending Hunger\,” said Denise Nowinski\, Director of Education and Member Relations at Tricorp FCU. “This truly is an event that the credit unions in three states look forward to each year. It is a great way to connect\, have fun\, and raise money to help combat hunger in Maine.”The credit unions in the chapter lent a helping hand\, from securing sponsorships to working it day-of. Their collaborative efforts made the event a huge success. Tricorp FCU specifically feels a special tie to carrying this tournament out each year\, as Norm Nolette was the very first CEO at Tricorp.For the past 24 years\, the Tricorp FCU has led the chapter in organizing and coordinating the event\, along with a committee of chapter credit union employees. The tournament location holds significance\, as well\, as it was Norm Nolette’s favorite course to play. SUMMARY:Monday Night Concert Series- The World Famous Grassholes
DESCRIPTION:The World Famous Grassholes play high-energy bluegrass (yes\, a little bit like that Billy Strings guy\, but also like Greensky and Leftover Salmon and Mighty Poplar\, etc.)\, a mix of original compositions\, classics\, and cool covers. It’s good for dancing and nodding your head and tapping your feet\, and meant to be enjoyed with friends and family. Part of a long legacy of performers that goes back to 2000\, the Grassholes feature Heather Kahill on fiddle\, Merrill Marsh and Sam Pfeifle on guitars\, Flann O’Brien on the stand-up bass\, and Field Rider on Banjo and harmonica. Everybody sings a bit here and there\, whether you like it or not. \n$5.00 admission. In the case of inclement weather the concert will be moved inside the Maine Inn Dining room.

Their ability to emulate the best bands from the classic rock era is why they are successful with capturing the hearts of both the young and older generations. Since the reforming of the group after a 20 year hiatus in 1987 the band continued to perform. SUMMARY:Denny Breau
DESCRIPTION:Denny Breau’s rhythmically flawless and dazzlingly clear style allows him to do amazing and stunning things with a six-string guitar. He first draws in an audience with a finely arranged melody and then slides effortlessly into scorching fingerwork that sets ears aflame. The lighting fast guitar lines that seem almost humanly impossible to accomplish are balanced with those that have a quiet intimacy and wrap tenderly around his carefully crafted songs. He mixes genres with ease — folk\, Delta blues\, country and jazz — “creating a totally accessible musical mélange that captivates as it entertains\,” according to Lucky Clark writing for the Kennebec (Maine) Journal. \nGuitarists in the audience often suspect that they have been left in the dust and regularly tell Denny that they might as well hang up their guitars! As Denny greets concert-goers and shakes hands following his performances\, guitar players invariably ask how he performs certain techniques and Denny\, who has a passion for teaching\, is happy to show them. This is especially true when demonstrating the guitar style of Chet Atkins\, who was a family friend and major influence. Shows usually include a “smartly executed Chet Atkins medley by Breau who truly does the late Atkins proud\,” according to a review in Dirty Linen magazine. \nIt is not an exaggeration to say that Denny was born to the instrument on May 26\, 1952. His parents\, Hal Lone Pine and Betty Cody\, were popular country performers and RCA recording artists beginning in the 1940s. His older brother\, the late Lenny Breau\, is considered a jazz guitar giant. A recent Dirty Linen review of Denny’s solo CD of “neighborly song portraits of weathered souls” said that “listening to Denny nimbly bend his acoustic steel strings…one can hear a jazz player’s elegant fluidity.” \nDenny started playing guitar when he was 9 years old and was performing professionally by his early teens. During more than 30 years as a full-time musician\, he has performed with many well-known artists and picked alongside outstanding guitarists including Bryan Sutton\, Harvey Reid\, J.P. Cormier\, Pat Donohue\, Dan Crary and Steve Kaufman. He has long been in demand as a studio musician and has done jingles and sound tracks for radio and television as well as recorded and produced albums for other artists. Denny was a member of roots music trio Turkey Hollow with Tom Rowe and Tom’s son Dave starting in 1998. Since Tom’s death in early 2004\, Denny and Dave have continued to perform as Turkey Hollow on a limited bases. Denny was inducted into the Maine Country Music Hall of Fame in 2004\, the youngest inductee in the history of the organization. \nIn addition to an active solo career\, Denny gives private guitar lessons and teaches music clinics. He also fronts the Denny Breau Trio. Both in solo and trio performances\, musical boundaries disappear as Denny takes his music to wherever the joy and spirit of the moment leads him. \nDenny is a triple threat: a consummate picker\, evocative songwriter\, and a singer with a ” voice that is warm and inviting but completely unpretentious— much like the singer himself\,” according to Lucky Clark. Mainers have long considered Denny a “must –see\,” but they are happy to share a favorite son with those “from away.”
